Cabel Sasser, co-founder of the company behind whimsical yellow gaming handheld the Playdate, was giving a talk on the crank-sporting device at the Games Developer Conference when he provided a noteworthy factoid and anecdote. Apparently, $400,000 worth of Playdates curiously went missing at a shipping factory in Las Vegas. Folks, we’ve got ourselves a good ol’ fashioned video game heist. As first reported by Stephen Totilo at GameFile, Sasser was checking in on the Playdate’s inventory numbers at a shipping center in Las Vegas when he noticed that the numbers weren’t quite adding up. Upon further investigation, he resolved that about two pallets containing Playdate systems had…

A free demo for Stellar Blade, developer Shift Up’s character-action PS5 exclusive, will go live on March 29. Ahead of its imminent release, some gaming publications got early hands-on time with roughly two hours of the game, which contains the first level and its respective boss. Based on everything that’s being said from these previews, it sounds like Stellar Blade is going to be a stellar release when it drops on April 26. That’s because our perception of the game might be all wrong. Instead of something closer to Bayonetta or Devil May Cry, action games that are more about rhythmically offensive attack strings, the Stellar Blade previews suggest…

After some teases and leaks, Marvel and NetEase Games have officially revealed Marvel Rivals. The game is a free-to-play, 6v6 hero shooter in the style of Overwatch, but it’s in third-person and stars superheroes from across Marvel’s various comics. While we’ve only seen one trailer, it looks like it could give Overwatch a run for its money when it comes to PC. Some of the playable characters shown include staples from the Avengers, such as Iron Man and the Hulk, as well as some X-Men characters, like Storm and Magneto. Even the Guardians of the Galaxy have a decent presence on the roster with Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord, Groot, and Mantis all…

The actor who provided the English voice of Yuffie in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth says that while recording her lines, she was asked to pretend that she was puking from motion sickness. Apparently, her fake vomiting was too accurate and gross because Square Enix had to tell her to pull back. Final Fantasy 7 Rebrith, out now, is the middle instalment in Square Enix’s arguably too-long attempt at remaking and expanding the original 1997 RPG. It’s the sequel to 2020’s FF7 Remake and will be followed up by a yet-unnamed-but-confirmed third and final entry in this massive remake trilogy. As part of the marketing push around this latest game,…

According to a Reuters report, the company recently laid off an unspecified number of employees after reporting a decline in earnings in the fourth quarter as physical sales fall and digital purchases rise. As Reuters reported on March 26, GameStop said earlier this week that its earnings in 2023’s fourth quarter—from October 1 to December 31—totaled just $1.79 billion. For comparison, the company’s 2022 earnings during the same period were $2.23 billion, which equals a staggering 80 percent decline in overall sales. Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter, who spoke to Reuters, attributed this…

Nintendo of America is restructuring the small army of contractors that helps test its games and hardware in its Washington state headquarters, the company confirmed to Kotaku. According to four current and former contractors, the result is a massive downsizing that comes amid layoffs across the rest of the video game industry and after the Mario maker reportedly delayed the launch of a “Switch 2″ successor until 2025. “These changes will involve some contractor assignments ending, as well as the creation of a significant number of new full-time employee positions,” a spokesperson for Nintendo told Kotaku in an email. Contractors at Nintendo of America who feel undervalued and underpaid have long…

The upcoming survival MMO Dune Awakening seems neat and all, but if you know the history of its developers, Funcom, you might be wondering: Hey, does this open-world online survival game with custom characters also include a penis-size slider? The answer is no, because apparently, Dune ain’t “sexy” and “savage.” Let’s back up. Dune: Awakening is being developed by Funcom, the same folks behind the 2017 survival MMO Conan Exiles. That online game is still getting updates and new content in 2024, with over 8,000 active players according to a check of SteamDB. But back when it first launched, all anybody seemed to be talking about was how Conan Exiles let…

Cheech and Chong, the comedy pair famous for their albums and movies from the 1970s and ‘80s, will be added to Call of Duty as part of the upcoming Season 3. An iconic stoner duo, Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin don’t seem like the kind of guys who would grab M4s and shoot people. The two created films and comedy routines focused on hippies, free love, drugs, and counterculture ideas. But the Activision machine demands more and so in they go, with the publisher confirming in a new blog post that the duo are heading to Call of Duty Warzone, Warzone Mobile, and Modern Warfare…

You are in the receiving mode of what you usually think about. The laws of attraction has a profound truth: what we emit into the universe, we inevitably draw back to ourselves. As Lao Tzu aptly expressed, our thoughts sculpt the contours of our reality, shaping our destiny with each fleeting moment. This ancient wisdom, echoed by luminaries like Buddha, underscores the fundamental principles of the law of attraction, operating on the premise that like attracts like. Indeed, our lives are intricately woven with the threads of our thoughts, words, and actions. Every intention we harbor, every emotion we nurture,…

Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Coach Andy Reid have won 3 Super Bowls together. After winning Super Bowl 58, Patrick gave heartfelt flowers to Coach Reid, “He’s the best coach for me, because he lets me be me.” Patrick didn’t have to be someone else or prove anything. He could just be himself. He had the generous space to invent the greater-than versions of himself. One of those versions was Super Bowl MVP (Most Valuable Player). Granting the freedom for someone to be themselves is profound mad love and respect. In the bigger picture, Patrick Mahomes might become the next…
